University of Hertfordshire campus – Monitoring costs and carbon emissions at 40+ buildings

Challenge

The client has energy data points from electricity, gas, solar arrays and CHP metering which are spread across the two main campuses with 30 buildings managed by their Estates Department.

The collected data is used to achieve compliance with government reporting requirements. It is also used to monitor the impact of energy conservation measures and decarbonisation projects.

Solution

To meet the client’s needs we installed the Energy and Carbon Management System and provided the University with a data repository and dashboard.

  • Monitoring of 8 Solar Arrays
  • One CHP plant
  • Thirty buildings supply meters – gas and electric

Results

  • Solution provides evidence to calculate carbon emissions for each building
  • Provides comparisons for understanding consumption trends
  • Peak Demand to monitor supply capacity
  • Data is used for planning energy conservation measures and tracking the impact

Impact

The service has been valued by the client and they have recently renewed their contract:

  • Convenience – All energy data is found on one portal
  • Economic Benefits:  The service is used to reduce demand and therefore cost.

Continued monitoring and optimisation of the system are planned to ensure maximum efficiency and performance.
