Our Purpose of the visit
During September our Managing Director, Dr Li Yao was privileged to have joined GMCA Mayor Andy Burnham to represent Greater Manchester, in particular a cross section of cutting edge innovation taking place in the North at the events in Tianjin and Beijing. The theme for this year’s World Economic Forum was Fourth Industrial Revolution This was a unique opportunity to be part of the North to showcase it’s expertise alongside leading cities and global business leaders. Qbots is very proud to be one of the startups was vetted by the World Economic Forum as they felt Qbots has the potential to change the world through its technology.
The forum have succeeded in reaching a shared idea that the engagement by a wide range of industry leaders and start-ups in the critically advancing markets internationally can give highly effective suggestions for the existing matters we are currently facing with.
The Beijing Visit
We visited Beijing as the first stop, and was at UK ambassador’s residence in China, and Mayor Andy Burnham gave a speech promoting NPH and Northern cities in partnership with China and North of England. Long history of forward thinking being first of many!
Later we attended a match making event organised by China Britain Business Council and The Department for International trade and good meetings were held with various interesting Chinese counter parties. A visit to TianJin University was followed and Dr. Yao shared a presentation of Qbots’ technology and progress with audience to share knowledge and experience.
The WEF Visit
The WEF event have succeeded in reaching a shared idea that the engagement by a wide range of industry leaders and start-ups in the critically advancing markets internationally can give highly effective suggestions for the existing matters we are currently facing with.
One of the highlight was at the Brexit round table during the morning session Andy Burnham gave some very good points on the pressing topic of Brexit which Li fully agrees;
1. maximise access to Europe for Britain. Checkers plus – build up from what we have.
2. Cities are the new engines of the economy. Trust cities to build new relationships. Local skills policies and business support.
3. Prioritise key sectors. Get back to what caused Brexit. Don’t think that globalisation is recognised as a positive word. Too many people have been left behind. Stop the race to the bottom, back companies that treat people well. Support traditional industries as well.
