Weetwood – Cheshire’s Brewery

Cheshire based Brewery goes ‘Green’ and reduces their energy cost.

‘Breweries have reported a 73% increase in the cost of CO2, 57% increase in the cost of brewery energy, a 20% rise in the cost of beer cans and a 22% rise in the cost of cardboard packaging.’ – Sky News)

CUSTOMER NEEDS

A small scale brewery based in Cheshire, U.K had pledged to become Net Zero while controlling their energy costs.

They had already undertaken the installation of solar panels in 2020 but it was not optimised to their usage patterns, with over 20% of excess energy produced getting wasted. They were looking for a solution/partner to help them maximise the use of their solar energy, minimise their carbon footprint while protecting them from electricity market price rises.

The brewery was crying out for a solution to help them maximise the use of their solar energy, minimise their carbon footprint and protect them from electricity market price rises.

SOLUTION

To solve this problem, QEnergy™ installed a battery to collect any excess electricity generated from the solar panels. This electricity can then be used during times of the day when electricity is at its highest cost, or it can be sold back to the grid. The brewery was also provided with an energy monitoring and management system which allowed for the brewery’s electricity usage and assets to be monitored. Through monitoring, the brewery changed its operational times to coincide with the effectiveness of the solar panels, creating energy savings of around 20%. Lastly, the site was put on a Smart flexible energy tariff which provides ‘cashback’ benefits.
